The National Launching Ceremony of reorganized Primary Health Care at Primary Medical Care Institutes(PMCIs) will take place in Divisional Hospital of Draga Town and PMCU Mahagammedha under the patronage of Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine on 6th May 2019.
Sri Lanka has had a sound primary healthcare approach since the mid-1920s (even before the Declaration of Alma-Ata in 1978). Sri Lanka has made notable progress in key healthcare indicators. Life expectancy at birth, maternal and child health as well as neo-natal, infant and under-5 mortality rates are higher than the South Asian average.
